Pure Painters “EGG” Hunt

To all student pilots and local pilots, Pure Painters Invites you to participate in the Pure Painters 2011 “Egg” Hunt.

Recently Pure Painters invested in a 12-foot remote control blimp. While flying it around during the Ridge Meadows Home Show, the blimp got caught in a gust of wind and flew outside. The battle between the remote’s control of the blimp and the wind’s control began. Mother nature won sending our blimp flying out of our control and up into the air.

lost blimp

Now we need you to help us find our missing blimp. As local pilots your eyes can reach farther than our land-locked eyes can, so we are putting together Pure Painters 2011 “Egg” Hunt to find our lost egg (blimp), with a cash reward to the one who finds it!

The Blimp is 12 feet long, bright white, has 4 fins, and 3 motor fans.

The blimp was last seen at the Ridge Meadows Home Show, located at the Planet Ice in Maple Ridge – 23588 105th Avenue, Maple Ridge, BC. It is expected that the blimp should be approximately 30 kilometers east by north-east from that location.

We are leaving this up to you to find our “egg”. When you are flying around the area, whether for leisure, training, practice, etc., we ask that you keep an eye out for our blimp – which is most likely deflated at this point. A cash reward will be given to who ever finds the blimp!

So, if you find this blimp, a $500.00 reward will be given if you give us the GPS coordinates of the location of where the blimp is, or an $800.00 reward will be given if you find the blimp and return it to us!

Pure Painters appreciates your help in finding our missing blimp! Happy hunting and safe flying!

redecorating tips for Spring 2011

Spring is just around the corner. Beneath all the snow and the puddles lies the flowers waiting to bloom – and many anxious people waiting to get their dose of vitamin D! Spring also brings out the idea of “spring cleaning” or “renewal”.

Here are some redecorating tips for Spring 2011 to help spruce up or refresh your house to give it a spring touch!

Organize before you begin to decorate:
- group collectibles together – find an area for clutter/knickknacks
- store your collectibles in a box – make this look less cluttered
- get rid of things you don’t need – stop hoarding!
- arrange things by color

As you begin to decorate remember to keep it simple! Simple solutions can transform the look and feel of your home drastically without doing major changes or renovations.

Some examples include:
- change your fabrics – switch shades – change your color scheme, preferably something light and airy!
- Take down heavy curtains that drape over windows, let the sunlight in!
- Place sheer or light material curtains over windows to bring the spring feel in during all times of the day, including evenings
- Add a mirror – mirrors are great for adding light to a room, which can revamp a room to look livelier and brighter
- Move the furniture around – create a nice change whilst optimizing the space that you already have
- Put away any winter decorations/items you have and replace them with lighter colored-spring objects
Bring the outside in by placing fresh flowers in vases in rooms. The look and smell will bring spring in to your house. Also, if you find the replacement and care of flowers too much, use faux blooms! The character and “spring” feeling will still be attributed to faux flowers
Invest in some soft lighting. Ceiling lights help soften a room in the evening time and create a serene atmosphere. Don’t forget to turn the lights not needed off during the day to conserve energy!
Add splashes of color and character to a room! You can do this by creating a feature wall – painting a wall, a stand-out color or pattern. Or selecting colorful decorations such as pillow covers, slipcovers, and/or hanging artwork and displaying colorful objects

Whether you use a few, all, or one of these tips your house will feel rejuvenated and refreshed for spring!

Tips on Making Your Living Space Green:

As Pure Painters we focus our goals on creating a better environment and community. Transforming your home into an eco-friendly area to better it for yourself and your family is a way you can create a better environment for yourself and your family. Many people thing that “becoming green” is an altruistic gesture that comes at large inconvenience and expenses. But that could be farther from the truth. Going green is great for the planet, but it ultimately betters you and your family’s quality of life.
Here are some of the basic simple suggestions of going green:
- Program your Thermostats: program your thermostat back when you’re not home and while you’re sleeping. You’ll save 10% on your heating and cooling costs
- Use CFLS: replace your incandescent light bulbs with EnergyStar qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs. By replacing five frequently used light bulbs you’ll save 100$ per year!
- Plug Air Leaks: Install weather-stripping and caulk to those expensive drafts and improve comfort – it’s also cheap and easy!
- Optimize Your Water Heater: put an insulative jacket around your hot water heater and insulate the pipes around the heater.
- Check Insulation: make sure there are no areas in your attic floor with inadequate insulation. Even a small area with limited or no insulation can significantly decrease the effectiveness of the area’s insulation!
- Tune-up your HVAC – it will save 5% to 10% on your heating and cooling bills
- Go to low-flow: install low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators to save resources without sacrificing your heavenly water pressure! An efficient showerhead will save a family of four up to $285 a year! They’re inexpensive and easy to install as well.

Those are some great and easy tips we’ve all heard before on saving money whilst saving the environment! Here are some eco-friendly suggestions that will improve the quality of you and your family’s life that you probably haven’t heard of before!

- Improve your Indoor Air Quality for better health and well-being:
Improve the air quality you breathe in every day, and every second by using Low-Zero VOCs in your paint. VOC stands for volatile organic compound and includes numerous chemicals that can irritate the skin and mucus membranes that create long and short-term adverse health effects.
Improve the air quality by carefully choosing your furniture. A hidden culprit of indoor air pollution is MDF (medium-density fiberboard), which is a basic staple of most cabinetry and furniture. MDF is ground up wood pulp bound together with adhesives. MDF uses urea formaldehyde in the resin, and formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen that off-gases vapors into the air and has been associated with leukemia and nasal cancer. So when shopping for cabinetry and furniture make sure that all MDF you see is ‘non-toxic MDF’ aka formaldehyde-free resin!
Also try using vintage furniture – it is the greenest piece of furniture you can buy! Websites like EBay or Etsy, or flea markets are filled with vintage furniture waiting to be reused or redecorated to make it your own with added flare and character!
- Keep your floors healthy
Eco-friendly flooring includes cork and wood because these are easy to keep clean, don’t attract mites and dust, and beat out carpet in every department. But if you want and like carpets try green carpeting. The best carpeting options are natural fiber rugs (e.g., wool, organic cotton, and silk) that can be picked up, vacuumed under, and cleaned when needed.
- Install Foot Pedals on Your Sinks:
Many people take for granted their access to clean drinking water and don’t realize that water conservation is becoming a critical issue! One great way to cut back water usage – whilst still being convenient, is to install foot pedal valves into your sink systems to control water flow with your feet! It will save you money on your water bill and it solves the germy/messy situation of turning on/off your faucet. As well as being able to turn off the water to conserve it while brushing your teeth
These simple and convenient tips will help you and your family better your quality of life, save money, and help conserve our environment!

living room color design ideas

living room color design ideas

living room color design ideas

Living rooms are special. Like bedrooms, they nurture the spirit and restore the soul. You want a warm, welcoming room, but not one that puts you to sleep! There are many ways to combine the lively energy of a magnetic room design with the serenity of a harmonious space. Here are some ideas to awaken your creative muse:

Go With the Flow

Whether you’re working with a starkly modern condo or a historic country farmhouse, honor the architecture and create a room to compliment it. Don’t try to make a French Provincial statement in a log cabin! While it’s true that diverse elements can sometimes be refreshing, they should still conform to the overall design.

Consider the Climate

There’s no way around weather. If you live in the blustery North, you’ll want your living room to have a cozy, comforting warmth. Conversely, a living room in sunny Southern California lends itself well to an open, airy, and bright design. Warm, tropical locales call for a look that’s cool, breezy, and uncluttered.

Accentuate the Positive

Assess the room and identify its most outstanding features. Are there floor-to-ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, lots of rich wood trim? Does the space have a rustic stone fireplace or polished wood floors? Gather a few key ideas about what to emphasize, and then design the room to highlight these focal points.

Family & Lifestyle

Will the living room be shared and enjoyed by a large, active family, or will the space be a haven in which to read, entertain, and relax? Pairing a dramatically white sofa and expensive crystal lamps with energetic kids and dogs is asking for trouble. Instead choose sturdy furniture and patterned rugs that won’t show the dirt. On the other hand, a refined and delicate space can work very after the kids go off the school or for a single woman with one cat.

Selecting a Theme

Do you want a room that’s modern, minimal, spare, and sleek? Or is your vision one of retro charm, vintage antiques, and flea market treasures? You don’t have to honor your theme with every detail, but an underlying continuity should define the space overall.

If your style is casual and relaxed but you want a certain level of elegance, check out French Country decor. There’s room for improvisation and whimsy, but the ambiance is unmistakably chic.

Setting a Budget

Decide in advance how much you want to spend. If money is no object, you’re home free, but even on a budget it’s possible to have the living room you want. One of the easiest ways is to collect pictures from design magazines and then shop for similar items at lower prices.

Frequent thrift stores and second-hand furniture shops. Their stock changes every day, and it won’t be long before what you want materializes, usually at a substantial savings. Tell shop owners what you’re looking for and ask them to keep you advised about incoming items.

Color Ideas

Color energizes and personalizes the design of a room. Choose your colors carefully, because they will define everything else. Pick shades that make you feel good. Do you envision a soothing, pastel paradise? Or would you prefer a bold, dramatic environment?

While you can certainly add complimentary bursts of color with accent pieces, a basic pallet of 3-5 colors should be honored throughout the room. With fewer than three colors, you run the risk of being bland, while more than five colors can easily look chaotic.

One of the coolest ideas for anchoring a color scheme is to accent one wall with paint. Let’s say you live in a chilly region and want a rich, warm living room. You decide on a pallet of red, gold, brown, and beige. Painting one wall a rich wine red and the other walls beige makes a stunning visual statement and a provides a dramatic background for everything else.

Bright paint colors are lovely with white or light-colored furniture. Imagine the cool, crisp look of white wicker furniture set off by Caribbean green walls. If your budget is limited, a dramatic wall color can supply enough energy to offset minimal furnishings and “fill up” a room. Colorful walls can also make up for minimal wall art.

If you go with neutral or white walls, you can have lots of fun with colorful accents. Window treatments, upholstery, pillows, throws, rugs, and wall art can all be vibrant, patterned, and detailed. As long as you honor your base colors, a white-walled room can be very stimulating. Mixing in lots of texture gives interest to a neutral room and adds depth.

Decor Tips

Lighting is key in creating a mood. You can use wall sconces or hanging pendants to spotlight certain areas of the room to great effect. If you have lots of books and framed photos, consider a bookshelf wall or a bookcase-lined living room. It’s the perfect display area and keeps treasures safe. Furniture with under-the-seat storage or shelved coffee tables can contain any cutter you’d rather not display like games and toys.

With a large living space, arrange cozy grouped seating around a fireplace or coffee table. Other ideas include ceiling-mounted pull-down shades to instantly create small, intimate spaces in large areas like lofts. Be sure to have sufficient table space within easy reach of every seat with either with a central coffee table or a side table. Give small rooms the illusion of space by adding eye-level mirrors and clear-glass coffee and side tables.

Polished wood floors with area rugs give a designer touch to any living room. Even old, worn wood floors can look beautiful when highly waxed. For additional punch, match print rugs to bold wall colors; this can really jazz up a room.

Designing a living room is something anyone can do. Create an overall image of what you want, decide on the details, and then follow your plan. It’s okay to improvise as you go, but staying true to your essential vision will make the results worthwhile.

Teenage Bedroom Designs

Teenage Girls Room

Forget decorating a teenager’s room with princess dolls or space aliens. After the tween years, children cast off their childish preferences and seek to be seen as more sophisticated. Their design tastes also mature with the child. This applies greatly to their bedroom.

A teen’s bedroom is is oasis from the adult world. Though she might perceive herself to be an adult, mingling with elders is still considered “uncool.” This aloof quality in teenagers to set themselves apart from adults should be taken advantage of when choosing a room design. Rather than dictating what you, as a parent, will put into the room, ask the teen. Get input on her likes and dislikes, especially with color schemes. What about art and style? Does the teen prefer contemporary works; retro-styled pop-art; or more traditional, classical designs? Go beyond just art preferences, ask about music and books the teen prefers, as these will also give insight into the type of living space the teen would want to surround himself in.

In years past, a teen’s bedroom would have posters of rock stars and actors covering every inch of the walls and ceiling, but these trappings of youth are more frequently given up with the passing of the tween years. Today’s teens want sophistication in their rooms, but they are still young enough to be willing to put more modern designs and color mixtures into their space than their parents. For instance, a parent might be too conservative to have a red accent wall, but a teenager might be willing to paint all of the walls in his space red with black or white trim because such a vibrant, passionate color matches with his personality and preferences.

Teenage boys room

Teenage boys room

Young men are often the most difficult to design for. They are usually reluctant to settle on preferred colors and designs. Too often, when queried, the only response is “whatever.” This does not need to be the case, if you are sneaky about learning about his preferences. Look in his closet. What are the two most common colors he likes to wear? Check out the shelves, are there books, movies or music available to take a survey of? Does he prefer 80s pop, 40s smooth lounge music or modern heavy metal? For a teenager who likes music, movies and books from a certain era, take the styles and the colors common during that time to create an oasis. For example, a teenage boy who likes the muscle cars of the 50s and 60s would appreciate a room with chrome accents, and a main painting scheme to resemble a classic automobile. Hubcaps from classic cars are ideal wall hangings, and old tires can be transformed into seating.

Choosing the design for a teenage girl is slightly easier. Girls are more likely to be aware of their favorite color and the coordinating hues to go along with it. Ask a teenage girl, “If you were to dress this room in clothes, what would the space wear?” Her answer will tell you the colors, textures and design style that she has in mind for her personal space. For girls, think adding feminine touches without being too childish. The delicate scroll work of Queen Anne furnishings pair well with a large black and white print with a simple chrome frame. Bringing in elements of style will help the teenage girl’s space look both classy and contemporary at once. Use subtle paint hues such as pastels and creams in complementary colors for a soothing effect in the area for a sedate, studious teenage girl. Bolder colors, such as reds and yellows are invigorating and ideal for a young athlete.

Deciding on the designs for use in the space of a teenager will take some planning. Look for paint and carpet samples to compare colors with each other and get feedback from the teenager. He will be your greatest resource for choosing the designs for his personal space. Personal space goes beyond just the radius around someone which must not be invaded by others. It also applies to the space one spends most of his time, and for a teen, that means his bedroom. Getting input on the choice of colors and style will ensure that the young person is pleased with the final result and the space reflects on her personality and preferences.

Master Bedroom Design Ideas
Master Bedroom disign

Master bedroom Design

Master Bedroom Design Ideas

Learning how to design a master bedroom does not have to be difficult for the homeowner. Numerous master bedroom design ideas promise to alternatively transform the space into a spa-like oasis, Victorian showpiece or ultramodern minimalist retreat. With so many choices available, the homeowner may pick and choose to design a space that fits unique needs and preferences.

1. Outline the perfect master bedroom.

Design ideas should not be limited by budgetary constraints. Instead, focus on spatial changes — such as the addition or deletion of storage spaces. Other major changes may include the addition of a wall, door or window as well as the closing off of the space. The latter determines whether the space will do double-duty as a home office, transition into a master bath or follow a specific home-wide decorating theme.

Tip: Obtain brochures from the local furniture store. It helps to think outside the box, which is especially important if the homeowner desires a complete change in the master bedroom design ideas currently in use. These brochures showcase furniture in staged rooms, which helps the homeowner recognize the optimal spatial setup for a desired bedroom.

2. Determine a budget and make substitutions.

With the perfect space already sketched out, the homeowner now decides how much may be spent on buying new furnishings. If this figure is relatively small, it is time to consider suitable substitutions, such as the rehabbing of existing furniture with new colors and fabrics. The budget also decides whether the homeowner will do a lot of the work himself, hire a professional or mix both approaches.

For example, he might hire a professional carpenter to add a closet and also a painter for the important tasks of creating the canvas, but he may then choose to rely on the help of friends and family members to redo already available furniture.

Tip: Recreate the look and feel of expensive furnishings with the clever use of paint schemes and accent colors.

3. Choose the color palette.

Will a darker accent wall draw the eye? Does the room have undesirable nooks and crannies that lighter paint might be able to disguise or help to blend into the background? Could a play of light and shadow add depth to a small room’s ceiling?

The choice of colors is the single-most important aspect of any master bedroom design ideas. Skimping here leads to a job only half-done and might actually prevent a room from blending together.

Tip: Discuss color choices with a professional. Sure, there is the big box home improvement store with the computerized color matching machine, but to get a real idea how the color palette might change a room’s mood from sultry to functional — and its size from spacious to cozy — only a live expert can help.

4. Major in the minors.

The choice of door knobs and light switches is surprisingly important. Do not overlook the importance of picking just the right crown molding and closet door hinges. These details tie together the furnishings with the color scheme. Go ahead and replace the old outlets with new ones for a modern look and feel. Even the choice of fabrics makes a huge difference in this instance. For example, a jute rug exudes an earthiness that a nylon creation simply does not have – even if it comes in an attractive brown tone.

Tip: Take paint swatches to the fabric store. See how the colors play off and whether the finish as well as the tone is a good match for the types of fabric available. Once again, a seasoned paint professional most likely can offer some sound advice in this area.

5. Introduce furnishings carefully and gradually.

Even as it is clear that master bedroom design ideas must include a bed, there are numerous options open even here. A small room might do better with a hidden bed while a large room does not limit the size of the furniture. Following an order of importance list, the homeowner first focuses on introducing the bed into the room and then matches other furnishings one at a time. If the room feels crowded after the dresser is added, it may be necessary to forgo the vanity and mirror. Conversely, if the vanity is a must, perhaps the closet could take on some of the goods contained in the dresser so that this piece of furniture becomes superfluous.

Tip: Do not feel compelled to return each and every stick of furniture initially taken out of the room. In plenty of cases less is actually more when it comes to making a master bedroom’s design work.
